The animal kingdom has long dominated jewelry boxes- critter- studded baubles first grew popular in the 1890s as the Art Nouveau movement introduced fantastical dragonflies and serpents to vanities across Europe. In the next century, these retro gems reappeared on 1930s screen starlets in Hollywood. Fast forward to spring 2012, designers are resurrecting these playful vintage treasures. What’s old is certainly new again. Find this enamel ram bangle at J.Crew for $98.00. J.Crew.com

Remember the gorgeous brown tote bag from Clare Vivier that we loved? I’ve seen this clutch around the ‘street style’ images coming out of fashion weeks the world over, and now I’m afraid I’ve fallen in love all over again with the Neon Striped Flat Clutch ($155.00). Los Angeles-based label Clare Vivier was conceived in 2006, after the company’s founder was driven to make her own laptop sleeve for lack of stylish options. With a nod to classic French designers, Clare Vivier bags are known for their elegant functionality and timeless chic. In keeping with the label’s high standard of social consciousness and minimal carbon emissions, every bag is manufactured locally in California, making each one both beautiful and guilt-free. Find the clutch on the ShopBop website here.

I’ve been browsing for quite some time for a leather tote that is versatile enough to be used for carrying things back and forth to work and also double as a weekend bag. I thought this was going to be an easy task, but it has proved to more of a challenge than I anticipated. See here (going clockwise) the Leather Working Tote from Lotuff and Clegg ($750), and the Leather Tote from Ralph Lauren (originally $795, now on sale for $349). My favorite though is the La Tropezienne leather tote from Clare Vivier ($386).
I’ve fallen in love with Hermes enamel bangles (top; $348.00-$547.00) and make a point to buy one for myself for my birthday each year in order to build a collection. They are classic, work for any occassion, and are a great way to dress up and otherwise every day outfit. I was thrilled to discover that J.Crew also released a line of enamel bangles (bottom) that are much more affordable ($19.00-$28.00). You can find the J.Crew bangles online here and the Hermes online here. If you have the chance, I recommend buying these in person from Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, or Bergdorf Goodman- there’s nothing better than being handed that orange box with the Hermes logo engraved on it.
